Early on the morning of May 2, multiple officers responded to the area of Highway 17 and Porchers Bluff Plantation in response to a pursuit Charleston County Police Department was involved in. Charleston County advised it was a possible DUI.
The suspect has been identified as William Weston III, who was driving a black Toyota Camry on a high-speed pursuit from Hamlin Plantation, to Charleston National, to the south end of Rifle Range Road at speeds of approximately 50 to 60 mph through light traffic.
A spike strip was set up at Rifle Range and Long Grove. Weston's vehicle connected with the strip and continued along through Midtown, Trident Tech Campus and Wando Crossing and onto Stuart Engals Boulevard toward Bowman and Chuck Dawley Boulevard. The pursuit ended with Weston crashing onto the curb in front of the SCE&G complex off of Chuck Dawley.
Weston attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by two Charleston County deputies and Mount Pleasant Police Department's Pfc. Sarah Mccallister.
No signs of damage were found on the property of Hamlin Plantation, however, a tree was struck in Charleston National.
