According to the National Hurricane Center, the Atlantic hurricane season goes from June 1 to Nov. 30. It’s always good to be prepared for a possible hurricane making landfall here in the Charleston area. Hurricane Hugo was the last major hurricane for this area and although it was almost 30 years ago, it is well remembered: Its devastation caused about $7 billion in damage to the U.S., according to the National Weather Service.

While Charleston doesn’t always have tropical or stronger storms that make landfall, it is still necessary to be prepared even if we’re only experiencing the outer bands and after effects of a tropical storm.

Join us for the continuation of the series of programs being offered by the American Red Cross here at the Mount Pleasant Regional Library. The last program in the series is the American Red Cross Hurricane Preparedness Seminar on Saturday, July 20 from 1 to 2 p.m.

In the seminar, information will be provided about how to prepare for a hurricane, including what supplies to have on hand, how to create a plan for your family and which resources can help keep you informed leading up to and during a hurricane.
