Shrimp boats paraded through the Charleston Harbor past the Memorial Waterfront park on Sunday, April 28, to carry on a local tradition and celebration. The 32nd annual Blessing of the Fleet and Seafood Festival honored the Mount Pleasant shrimpers as they were blessed for a safe and bountiful upcoming season.

On shore, the festival featured local seafood, live music, a shag contest, a shrimp eating contest, Mount Pleasant Artist's Guild Art Exhibition, event t-shirts and memorabilia for sale, free children's activities, a craft show and more.

The festival was founded in 1988 by the Magwood family, longtime Shem Creek shrimpers, so local fishermen could thank and support their community. Proceeds from this year's festival will benefit East Cooper Land Trust and Southern Paws Animal Rescue.
