Over Veterans Day weekend, 201 flags will wave in front of the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point in honor of all of the brave men and women that have served the United States of America.

This vision became a reality thanks to the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club's (ECBRC) efforts to create a patriotic display in reverence for U.S. Veterans.

ECBRC partnered with members of the community who sponsored the funds to pay for each flag for the event. An individual sponsorship was $50 for a single flag and pole. There were also corporate sponsorship opportunities available. All additional money raised through Flags for Heroes will be used for the club's community service projects and to support the Charleston Fisher House.

The flags were placed in the ground on Friday, Nov. 8 and will remain waving until Tuesday, Nov. 12. Eight rotary members and several U.S. Army Reserves gathered on Friday morning to firmly stand the flags in the ground in the embankment alongside the parking area directly beside the Charleston Harbor.

ECBRC and Patriots Point encourages all members of the community to make time to see the Flags for Heroes display through the weekend and Veterans Day. Patriots Point is offering free admission to veterans as a sign of appreciation Nov. 9-11. To see a video of the flags from this morning click here.
