On Tuesday evening, Oct. 29, the Mount Pleasant Political Forum took place at Wando Mount Pleasant Library. The forum consisted of Mount Pleasant Town Council and Mount Pleasant Waterworks Commission candidates.
The four Waterworks candidates running for two seats (seated left to right at the forum) are Rick Crosby, Julian Hopkins, John Matthews and Linda Page. The eight Town Council candidates running for four seats (seated left to right at the forum) are Stephen Becker, Joe Bustos, Howard Chapman, Brenda Corley, Gary Davis, Laura Hyatt, Mike Lawrie and Jake Rambo.
The event was co-sponsored by Moultrie News alongside the League of Women Voters of the Charleston Area (LWVCA) and the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce (MPCC). The format included town government and town water-related questions from moderator's Cecilia Brown, editor of the Moultrie News and John Carroll with the MPCC.
The goal was to provide a go-to source of information about candidates, voting and election issues in the tri-county area. There was an attendance of approximately 250 townspeople who came to hear candidates' answers on town-related political issues. In addition to the candidate forum, the LWVCA will provide an online voter guide at VOTE411.org to inform voters about the candidates and issues and help them make educated decisions on Election Day. VOTE411 is offered as a resource for voters seeking unbiased information about voting, elections and candidates and issues.
