Joe Chealey is returning to Charleston this summer to teach the youth the same basketball skills and techniques that helped him become one the best to ever suit up for the Cougars.
The former College of Charleston standout and current Charlotte Hornets two-way player is hosting a four-day camp for boys ages 6-14 from July 29 through Aug. 1 at TD Arena downtown.
The camp will be divided into three age groups. Chealey, with the help of current and former Cougars, will guide players through skills training and five-on-five competition.
Camp will begin at 9 a.m. each day and finish at 3:30 p.m. Early drop-off begins at 8 a.m. Each camper will receive a Joe Chealey Basketball Camp t-shirt and basketball. Lunch will be provided.
Chealey finished his career at the College of Charleston as the school’s all-time leader in free throws, while also ranking fourth all-time in scoring with more 1,800 points and eighth in assists. He earned all-conference honors as a senior in 2018, posting 18 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game as senior, while guiding the Cougars to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 19 years. He signed with Charlotte as an undrafted free agent last fall and was called up to the Hornets for a game in October.
