Several East Cooper area baseball teams will enter the postseason in their respective conferences this week.
Two-time defending state champion Bishop England is seeded first in District VII of Class AAA, aligned with Edisto, Loris and Battery Creek. The Region 7 champion Bishops enter the playoffs on a seven-game winning streak. The Bishops went 3-0 in the 50th annual Hanahan Invitational Tournament last week but were forced to skip the championship game that fell on Holy Thursday this year.
Hanahan is seeded second in District VI, facing Cheraw, Gilbert and Lake Marion. Academic Magnet is seeded third in District VIII of Class AAA, which also includes top-seeded May River, Strom Thurmond and Dillon.
Wando earned its playoff berth by virtue of a region points tiebreaker, taking the fourth seed in District VIII of Class AAAAA, which also includes Region 8 champion Fort Dorchester, South Florence and Dutch Fork.
Region 7 champion Berkeley is the top-seeded team in AAAAA’s District VII, facing River Bluff, Sumter and West Florence. Cane Bay is seeded second, aligned with top-seeded Chapin, Summerville and Carolina Forest in District V. Stratford is seeded third in District VI with St. James, Lexington and Ashley Ridge.
Region 6-AA champion Oceanside is seeded first in District V, facing Johnsonville, Bamberg-Ehrhardt and Carvers Bay. The Landsharks went undefeated in region play, not allowing their opponents a single run through 10 games.
Philip Simmons is seeded second in AA’s District VIII, along with East Clarendon, North Charleston, and Whale Branch.
The district playoffs will run through April 29. Each district champion advances into the Lower State bracket, which will be played May 2-8.
