MOUNT PLEASANT — Wando shut out Conway, 3-0, in the opening round of the Class AAAAA playoffs on Tuesday.

The Warriors advance to host Dutch Fork in the semifinal round of the District V bracket.

Wando senior right-hander Matthew Painter allowed just one hit with five strikeouts and seven walks through 6 1-3 innings pitched Tuesday.

Conway put two runners on two outs into the seventh inning. Warriors closer Tyler Jones ended the threat, forcing Todd McClellan to pop up to right field where Matt Hogarty laid out for a game-sealing diving snag.

Wando scored all three runs in the fourth inning. Allen Knepper scored as Jared Aden reached first base on an error. James Tucker doubled in Aden and then scored in the next at-bat off a Jaxen Rogers single to left field.
