Band Festival logo

On Saturday, Oct.7, the Bands of Wando Boosters will welcome marching bands from around the Lowcountry and the southeast for the 12th Annual Lowcountry Invitational (LCI) Marching Band Festival. In the past LCI has been held at the Wando High School Stadium, but since the area around the stadium is being demolished to make way for the new Lucy Garrett Beckham High School, this year’s LCI has been moved to Charleston Southern University.

The Wando High School Band Boosters sponsors LCI, an annual event that provides a national-level music education and adjudication experience for over 2,000 musicians and visual artists. These young performance artists will be judged by some of the best music and visual educators in North America and spectators will be entertained by music, pageantry and choreography as 13 marching bands are scheduled to compete. The Charleston Southern University Buccaneer Marching Band will perform during the dinner break.

Concessions will be plentiful along with other areas of interest including LCI t-shirts for sale and “The Fastest Drummer” competition. Plenty of directed parking will be available and assistance for those who need it.

Following the competition, four-time Grand Nationals Finalist and 10-time 5A S.C. State Marching Band Champions the Wando High School Marching Band, will perform in exhibition mode at this year’s show, “Electra.”

The 2017 LCI coordinator is Heyward Robinson, who is also the president-elect for the Bands of Wando Boosters. The Bands of Wando Directors are: Bobby Lambert, Lanie Radacke, and Jeff Handel.

The Bands of Wando Boosters gratefully acknowledge the support of Dr. Marshall Forrester and Charleston Southern University, The Bands of Wando Foundation, The Bands of Wando Harmony Sponsors, the Town of Mount Pleasant, Charleston County School District, and the Wando Band community of parents, alumni and supporters.

The event will be held at the Charleston Southern University Buccaneer Stadium, 9200 University Boulevard, N. Charleston, S.C.
